Aha’aina: “Gathering for a Meal”
When approaching the design for Hapa’s, the vision was to create a space that would embody the spirit of the islands, its beautiful terrains, and its melting pot of cultures—a place that would feel instantly familiar to guests from Hawaii, and transporting for those still dreaming of visiting one day.
Central to the energy of the space will be the spirit of Aloha. “Aloha” roughly translated means “Breath of Presence” or “Breath of life.” It’s a way of being: “Being in the presence of and sharing the essence of life — embodying lessons of peace, kindness, compassion and responsibility to future generations.”
The spirit of Aloha is a spirit of hospitality, community, and stewardship. It values community and an open table. To that end, Hapa’s will be a place of gathering, where guests from all walks of life can come and feel welcome and part of the community—perfect for our future neighbors in Larkfield!
With a focus on the natural beauty of Hawaii, our design will integrate tropical foliage, botanical textiles, lava stone accents, and vibrant, floral hues signature to the unique biome of the Islands. Culture will be important in the visual storytelling, with the use of Kapa Fabric, carved Koa, and bamboo.
“The lessons of Aloha are expressed through chant, music, hula, arts, cultural practices, and through the warm, genuine greetings that are a hallmark of Hawaiian hospitality. In keeping with that tradition, we will feature a live music and entertainment space in the outdoor dining area for guests to enjoy.
